A fast moving object (over Mach 3) compresses air because the air can't move out of the way, which causes the compressed air to heat up.

Anytime you compress a gas in an enclosed space it heats up. (the opposite is also true)

It is the very hot air that glows, (it actually becomes a plasma), and the heat from that heats up the object.

This plasma is electromagnetic, and blocks radio waves, so there used to be a "dead air time" while returning spacecraft were creating the plasma. (see the movie Apollo 13). Modern spacecraft bounce the signals off a satellite, above the craft, avoiding this radio silence.

Anyone explaining it by saying it is "friction with the air" is wrong

SFXhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09243333698937728871noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-969362574230141878.post-26836684823942269532022-06-24T23:57:00.003-07:002022-06-24T23:59:33.896-07:00Water vapour is a clear and colourless gas, it can't be seen by the naked eye.
seriously

This is wrong

https://www.americanexperiment.org/youre-seeing-water-vapor-not-smoke/

Certainly they are trying to fix some wrong and confusing info

But it is still wrong

This is correct

https://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/303804/how-are-water-vapors-not-visible
SFXhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09243333698937728871noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-969362574230141878.post-35996701361315627202022-04-03T15:30:00.005-07:002022-04-03T15:30:59.458-07:00Humans have DMT naturally occurring in the brain, blood and urine

<h1 class="content-title" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; clear: initial; font-family: Cambria, "Cambria Math", stixgeneral, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 17.979pt; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: -0.01em; line-height: 22.5pt; margin: 20pt 0px 10pt;">N, N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), an Endogenous Hallucinogen: Past, Present, and Future Research to Determine Its Role and Function
<h1 class="content-title" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: inherit; clear: initial; font-family: Cambria, "Cambria Math", stixgeneral, "Times New Roman", Times, serif; font-size: 17.979pt; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: -0.01em; line-height: 22.5pt; margin: 20pt 0px 10pt;">The Hallucinogen N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) Is an Endogenous Sigma-1 Receptor Regulator

Among the presenters was Dr Ede Frecska, who spoke about how DMT has been found to bind to the sigma-1 receptor, which is found throughout the body. The verb-form alone has no fewer than 645 meanings and Peter Gilliver worked for more than nine months to work out all of them.
Online look at the word

As a child I would read the dictionary,

Yes, I was that kid. I noticed some words filled pages with the different definitions, and once tried to find the word that had the most definitions. It was "ride", with run, set, and put close seconds.

The unabridged dictionaries were the best. I simply looked for pages that were filled with just one words definition, and then calculated by the amount of page space used to determine which word had the most definitions. Not scientific, but fun.

This meant I had to actually look at every page of the unabridged dictionary. Didn't take as long as it sounds.

It was an immature attempt to use evidence based science, to determine which word had the most definitions.
Fascinating. Considering that care is needed to make a version that is effective. How many other old scientific remedies are there? And how many were hand waved away as useless?

Not today.

Farday is well known as the inventor of the electric motor, the man who discovered the link between electricity and magnetism. These facts are never in dispute.

This web page just leaves him out of the first paragraph of the story, which is about the invention of the electric motor!

This can not be tolerated. Faraday demonstrated his invention in 1820.

Now that I blogged about this, I'm sure the problem has been solved. Duty calls!
An hour in that sort of radiation is almost certain death.

Since radiation levels are subject to the inverse square law, at 150 feet above Building 3 the dose would be 15 Sieverts an hour, deadly, and enough to make anyone sick very quickly. Which is why the helicopters stayed so high up when dropping water.SFXhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09243333698937728871noreply@blogger.com0
